Another Mosin Nagant post/cutting down/trickingout
Howdy folks, I just visited another gun forum that had a post about cutting down a Mosin to pistol length barrel...no thanks, you have to pay some kind of whacky tax to be legal....
However a 79 dollar Mosin cut down to a carbine length and re-crowned/front sight may be a handy and cheap truck gun. Ammo at Aimsurplus is 150 bucks per800 rds. Dirt cheap mud gun and ammo for future reference??? Any thoughts??? Chime in Wallew... Good luck |
Re: Another Mosin Nagant post/cutting down/trickingout
I think that if you made the gun any smaller (i.e. LIGHTER), I'd be about impossible to shoot accurately due to recoil.

Ahhh yes, recoil could be an "issue", never shot that caliber.
Maybe a rifle stock recoil pad ??? These old Mosins look like they could kick like a mule. Just thinking... |
Re: Another Mosin Nagant post/cutting down/trickingout
I just purchased one of these rifles last week, cleaned her up and took her out today to the pasture and shot 40 rounds through her. The recoil is not really bad at all, the only time it caused any discomfort was when I did not hold it up to my shoulder like I should, even then it was not really that bad.
accuracy was real good, at 119 yards on my second box of shells with both eyes open shooting I was hitting a 3 inch by 8 inch target with 1 1/2 group, I was about 3 inches low with my iron sights set at 100 M, which is about 109 yards. I know you can buy new front sights if you want to shorten your barrel some, I do not think the recoil would become unmanageable at all. I just finished floating the barrel tonight and will go out tomorrow and see if I have made improvements. The biggest improvement I can see at this time would be a better trigger. I will work the trigger tomorrow some I guess. I would not worry about unmanageable recoil. |

Right when I got interested in MN's I got the religion instilled into me by a fine GIM member. There are plenty of guns to trick out. Pieces of history are not one of them. Do what you will with your property but some of us don't want to hear about it.

Re: Another Mosin Nagant post/cutting down/trickingout
I had the PSL bug at first too, but after reading some others comments on here, I can't justify buying one semi-auto PSL over a bolt-action Mosin at 10X the price. If you are really sold though, JG has PSL's in stock....cheaper than classicarms too I believe...
